IrfanView Batch Resize
Photos too
big to e-mail or post to a website? For this I use a great little utility called
IrfanView, which can be downloaded
HERE. It’s free, but the author
accepts donations and they are well-deserved!
Batch re-sizing:
Go to the directory containing the photos you want to re-size and open any image
with IrfanView.
From the menu, choose File > Batch Conversion/Rename. (or just type "b")
This window will appear:

To make it easier to choose the photos to process, set the preview window to
"Thumbnails"

Add the photos to the "Input files" processing list by double-clicking or
highlighting them and clicking the "add" button. Note: I usually move a
copy of all the photos I'm going to process to
a holding directory so I can just click "add all".
Click on the "Use this directory as output" button just below the preview pane.
It will list your temporary directory as the destination for the re-sized files.
Add a \Resize to the directory name. (C:\PicTemp becomes C:\PicTemp\Resize).
This will create your files in an easy to find sub-directory.
Just below the output directory, click the "batch conversion" radio button and
then the "Use advanced options" check box" (if it isn't already checked). Click
the "Use advanced options" button and this window will appear:

The settings displayed above will resize all the images in the list to 800
pixels on the long dimension and since the "preserve aspect ratio" box is
checked, the short side will be automatically set to whatever size it needs to
be. The other boxes that are checked are good general choices until you are more
familiar with the functions.
Click "OK" and then "Start" up at the top and Awaaaaay we go.
The Resize sub-directory is now filled with 800 x whatever images waiting to be
uploaded!
Happy shooting!
